![]() Wednesday, March 26, 2003 Penn Avenue Arts Jeffrey Dorsey just put out the weekly update. As Jeffrey says, "Help spread the word." posted by smallstreams | 6:16 PM Tuesday, March 25, 2003 Hittin' All the Hotspots Had to make a post from the Quiet Storm. They're a telerama hot spot; and at least for now it's free! posted by smallstreams | 9:43 AM Monday, March 24, 2003 Communications Committee/Web Site Meeting I'm not anti-stuff on the front page. I'll try to find some examples of what I'd like to see. In the meantime, I'll be available for daytime meetings all this week. Thursday would be fine. Quiet Storm probably a good spot. In the meantime, if Bob or somebody could get the password for the site that would be good. posted by smallstreams | 3:16 PM Tuesday, March 18, 2003 Flower Fest Meeting Hello to you all! Just sending out a friendly reminder that the next Planning meeting is Monday, the 24th at 7PM at Samantha Arakelian's home on Negley Ave.Hope to see you there! Kasia posted by smallstreams | 12:13 PM Sunday, March 16, 2003 Be That Change Saw a sign at the rally on Flagstaff Hill, a quote from Gandhi, "Be the change you want to see in the world." About 45 attended the candlelight peace vigil in Baum Grove (Thanks, Martha). More people in Friendship were probably watching 60 Minutes, but I think what we were doing had more meaning and less Andy Rooney. For about an hour or so, we held our candles, sang a couple of songs, spoke our minds, but mostly we were quiet. We were quiet even though I know a lot of us are outraged. While I was there I remembered how a number of outraged and driven people kept a parking garage from being built on Baum Grove, and how those same people kept working to make Friendship the great neighborhood it is. I feel another quote coming on: "Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world. For, indeed, that's all who ever have." -- Margaret Mead posted by smallstreams | 9:11 PM Peace Vigil A candlelight vigil for peace will be held at Baum Grove, 7 p.m. this evening. posted by smallstreams | 11:45 AM Saturday, March 15, 2003 Something to Chew on I'm reading an article on weblog software. It's mostly about Movable Type, but it seems like a good primer. If you just want to get something to eat instead, you can try brunch at the Quiet Storm. posted by smallstreams | 8:37 PM Friday, March 14, 2003 Which Leads to Another Thought Was just thinking that for the main page of the web site we just do a slide show of Friendship landscapes and candids. Then we can have a paragraph of space on the bottom for news, and on the left we can have the links. Voila we have the web site. All in favor, remain silent. posted by smallstreams | 10:18 AM Prototypin' I just put a link to the PAAI newsletter on the left. I think the only other link of that kind that we need is a .pdf for the Friendship Journal. posted by smallstreams | 10:14 AM Tuesday, March 11, 2003 Hi everyone, If you have articles for print and/or important dates for the calendar (already have committee meeting dates), please forward them to me by 5 PM this Friday, March 14th. This month, I am adding a "reminder" section on future FPG/FDA activities so folks can mark their calendars ahead. If you have such events/dates, please include send through. Cheers, Robin Snyder posted by smallstreams | 12:23 PM Monday, March 10, 2003 Domain Name Choices trfn.clpgh.org/fpg/ friendship-pgh.org (is this the FDA's?) friendshippreservation.org (This one's available. fpg.org and friendship.org aren't) Others? posted by smallstreams | 7:32 PM Good to see you on board, Jill. I hope you find the work enjoyable. I'll recap the short term goals (with some commentary): 1. Bob C. will find out how to get access and update the current web site (He's working w/Dutch McDonald on this. Most info is old and it comes with the "trfn.clpgh.org" name. So it might not be worth the trouble); 2. Create a site with links to fpg journal, classified, and calendar information (stuff that can be maintained by a handful of people); 3. Come to some kind of consensus for creating a domain name, and obtaining server space (continue with trfn or not); and 4. Find a method for having fpg members make posts to the web site. (much like this weblog, although probably more like Movable Type which users can categorize posts [zoning, beautification, festival, house tour] and make comments on a post.) posted by smallstreams | 7:01 PM Sunday, March 09, 2003 We just got an offer to update the site from a friend of Rich Engel My friend Jill just redesigned the Quiet Storm coffeehouse website and would be happy to re-make the FDA/FPG website, and then it could be maintained afterwards by the communications committee (or me). Curt just replied that we need some way to have multiple access. I suggest that we have the site look pretty much like a typical site but have it linked to the blog which can have a dozen or so administrators. posted by smallstreams | 9:13 PM Friday, March 07, 2003 What do we do now? If we wanted to we could update each other on FPG communications related events, FPG journal deadlines, status of the web site, suggestions for web site, and so on. It can be a very simple and effective way for groups to work on a project. As Lewis demonstrated it's also a good place to air our dirty laundry. With only minimum fuss we can update information instantaneously. How does this link back to the old FPG site? Well, literally, there's a link to the left that says FPG. We can add whatever links necessary or desirable. Links can also be made within a post, like this one to calendar info posted by smallstreams | 5:03 PM By the way, where are the fpg classifieds and calendar information? I get the Penn Avenue Arts e-mail. We could probably post it to a web page and link to that. posted by smallstreams | 12:17 PM |
